Shui Lin’s Birthday at Checkers, Damansara Height – Part 1

25 Apr

All I can remember from the “delayed” Shui Lin’s birthday celebration is a lot of foods and a lot of pork! So much food that I have to break yesterday’s event into 2 parts. Part 1 is about the “launching” of Shui Lin’s latest fashion, the E-diot cum birthday celebration at the Checkers, Damansara Height. Part 2 is our second round celebration at Vintry at Medan Damansara. I won’t be writing much though, because I realized pictures tell better story then me writing, so enjoy!

For her birthday, we gave Shui Lin three T-shirts all designed in-house. The main designers are TC and Calista…hahaha…the rest of the team which include myself are the opinion – givers…hehehe! It is still team work, okay!

Yeah, that is the “launching” of Shui Lin’s latest fashion, the E-diot…

See, how happy is Shui Lin. I think she is too ecstatic, that she got nothing to say but to dance…

Shui Lin with one of the designer, Ms. Calista Lee…

Now, you know you are “spaztial” to us, Shui Lin (hehe). Happy Belated Birthday, to you

Let’s talk about the food at the Checkers. This is the first time I came about a restaurant that has no signboard but with extremely yummy food owned by two very “interesting” owners. You will know why later…

1. TC, the mastermind from the shirt design to the dinner and Calista…

2. Shui Lin, Hiew, Linda and KF, my clan master…

I have done some short research on the Checkers at Damansara Height. Some called the restaurant the “best kept secret in town”. I have to agree with that statement. This restaurant isn’t easy to locate and most interestingly, the restaurant doesn’t even have a sign board!!!

I thought sign board is the cheapest publicity for any business???

Even without a signboard, this place is full almost every evening (from what I heard). The seats in the restaurant is kinda limited also. If I am not mistaken, there are only maximum 15 “single” tables available in the restaurant. People normally go to the restaurant in a group, so I assumed the restaurant can fit maximum 5 groups only. Therefore, if you wanna dine at the Checkers, please book few days in advance…

Once you are there, follow this sequence… find the younger owner, talk some crap with him for a while, ask him what he has for the day other than in the menu, listen to his recommendation, order and wait for your food. After a while you will notice what’s so “interesting” about the owners. Checker have two owners, if I have not mistaken…

Next is the food… I am not a good commentator when comes to food. I have very limited vocabulary when come to describe food. But I can assure you, the food at Checkers are delicious (see what I mean) and they use the best ingredients for their food…

1. Grilled Expensive Mushroom and Grilled Tomato Soup…

2. Some Pasta (which I don’t remember the name) and Mexican Sausage…

3. Some Pasta (which I don’t remember the name) and the famous Lord of the Ribs (LOTR)…

TC, cutting the LOTR for us…

4. Stuffed Grilled Calamari (just don’t ask what is the filling) and Pork Chop…

5. The fat layer from the Pork Chop and Scampi with bread…

I hope the pictures have done a good job by showing to you how good is the food at Checkers. You already have the visual, what is lacking is the smell and the opportunity to taste. If you are interested to dine at the restaurant, I have already included a map and address to the restaurant. Book in advance using this number: 03-2095 3304 before going there…

Be prepared to pay for the food and don’t be late or you might lose your booking. Just don’t show the “e-diot” face like Linda if you so happen to arrive late…haha! Sorry Linda… you are still my favorite person in office…

Part 2 is coming…

Hari Raya Eve @ Nak Won, Ampang…

2 Oct

It was Hari Raya Eve, and we havent gotten any interesting plan… so the best thing is to go and eat. Our friend Jolene recommended us to a a Korean restaurant at Ampang. She said she love korean dramas, guys and food. Ok, so we follow her suggestion.

Arriving at Nak Won Korean BBQ Restaurant

Taking a snap of Us… hehe

Our friends Jolene and Jenli

Look at the array of side dishes they offered… appertizing!

….

Now the main dishes

Marinated pork slices

BBQ Beef Spare Ribs (such small serving and it cost RM 56…)

Bim Bim Bap ( rice with different types of vegetables and an egg mixed together)

And last but not least, a rice wine to compliment our our meal…

Bek Se Ju ( a sweet rice wine, the name means 100 years wine, so if you drink it you might live up to 100 years…)

Overall, we had a great meal and alot of fun. The food was alright and alil on the pricy side. I personally tried better Korean restaurants at New York and Montreal and so far havent tried any korean food here that can beat the taste yet. Perhaps there are better Korean restaurants around KL, or Sri Hartamas, or even Mont Kiara. At the end of the dinner, we were served with a cold barley drink, a refreshing drink to end your dinner since the BBQ is quite heaty in a way.

………

RuehYinn writes:- Authentic Korean food but a lil pricey. I enjoyed myself on that night and I was surprised to see such a well developed Korean community here outside of Mont. Kiara. You can basically find a lot of authentic Korean restaurant and grocery shops. They even have Korean church too at the middle of the “town”…impressive!! So if you want to look for Korean food, groceries, girlfriend or boyfriend…just go to Ampang Jaya … hehehe…

Jolene anymore place to introduce??

Fresh Own Made Noodles @ Uncle Seng Restaurant, SS15 Subang Jaya

6 Jul

After a good Service at Church on Sunday, our Cell Group went for our usual lunch fellowship. And this time we went to a try the “Fresh Own Made Noodles” at SS15 by Uncle Seng Restaurant. This is my 2nd time visiting this restaurant ever since my colleague brought me to this restaurant. However it was the first for all my church friends.

fresh own made noodles

This restaurant is located in the bustling SS15 town. It is popular because of its freshly own made noodles. Don’t be surprise if you’ll face some difficulties to find parking as Subang Jaya is notorious for its lack of parking space. However, do not be despair for the sake of a plate of good noodle :-)

Bon apetite…

These are some of the food that we ordered:

1. Curry Chicken Noodles

2. Char Siew Wan Ton Noodle

char siew wantan

3. Braised Pork Noodle

The price for the noodle is reasonable, ranges from RM4.80 to RM 7.30. To give you guys some idea of what they offer… they have namely Char Siew Wan Ton, Curry Chicken, Chicken Feet Mushroom, Deep Fried Pork noodle and etc.

You can order in combination like Curry Chicken and Char Siew Wan Ton or Deep Fried Pork and Chicken Feet Mushroom. They have side orders too like Fried Wan Ton, Mushroom and etc.

I can’t possibly named all of the food here, however, you will get a list of food they offer once you have seated. All you need to do is to decide what you want and put the quantity in respective box adjacent to the food’s names.

At the end of the day, all of us are satisfied and enjoy our lunch… and

I ‘seem’ like marching out from the restaurant with my fellow church friends…haha… while as usual, RuehYinn, whom never appear in the picture was the photographer.

own made noodles

I hope you will enjoy the noodle as much as my friends did this afternoon…
